Reimagine Structure Metals In Construction Magazine 2017 Design Challenge

Metals in Construction magazine invites architects, engineers, and students around the world to submit their visions for reducing energy consumption in the built environment by minimizing a building’s embodied energy.

Design Brief

As design strategies succeed in shrinking the energy used in operating buildings, focus is shifting to the energy consumed producing the materials used in constructing them. Carbon dioxide emitted as a result of this energy use accounts for 50 to 300 percent of a building’s total lifetime consumption. Since the structure and the enclosure account for much of this, can combining these two systems help minimize the building's total embodied energy? The Metals in Construction magazine 2017 Design Challenge: Reimagine Structure invites participants to submit their vision for accomplishing this goal to help solve the world's climate crisis.
